The Northwest Vista Parking Garage fulfills a major component of the Northwest Vista College Master Plan. Intended to alleviate a critical need for parking in a rapidly expanding campus, the garage builds upon the architectural vocabulary established in the recent bond projects at Northwest Vista.
The garage is designed to accommodate 750 vehicles on five levels of parking including the ground level. The building is designed with strong vertical articulation at the circulation which captures the style of the new structures on the campus with a glass, metal, and masonry tower capped by a metal clad cap. For the parking bays a deceptively simple set of curved perforated screens mask the horizontal parking levels and add color, scale, texture and rhythm to the structure. Parking bays are laid out in the most efficient two-bay module with ramped parking along the south side and flat bays on the north side.
The structure is sited to comfortably fit in the existing Northwest Vista campus and nestles next to a reserved natural area. By sitting on an existing parking field the environmental impact is lessened and no trees needed be removed from the campus to accommodate this new parking.
