Design Innovation in Parking Structures

Our first, award-winning parking structure embraced its prominent corner of downtown San Antonio, incorporating ground floor offices and retail to create an authentic urban response. The St. Mary’s Street Garage also includes a whimsical wayfinding component, adding a sense of place and personality. Giant wildlife graphics at the San Antonio Zoo Garage offer a sense of delight, providing a portal to the Zoo that extends brand identity into the public realm. In each case, pushing creative boundaries led to a unique and memorable solution.

Innovative programming has also helped to expand expectations for this building type; for example, parking structures for higher education may include conveniences such as campus welcome centers, cafes and retail shops. Parking structures increase capacity to accommodate growth while conserving land area for future building, a key benefit in campus planning. By responding directly to the challenges and opportunities of each project, we produce parking structures that enrich the architectural fabric of the surrounding development, becoming an indispensable and integral part of the local context.
