Allen Amor is a graduate of the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and is on track to become licensed. His architectural passion lies in aiding society's vulnerable through the built environment. At Alamo, this commitment is shown through diverse projects spanning housing, master planning and education. Public school design includes Reagan High School JROTC and Straus Middle School. Allen was also part of the team to revitalize downtown San Antonio's historic Municipal Plaza Building. Presently, his focus centers on advocating for affordable housing in the city. During downtime, he partakes in road trips through the Texas desert.
Jesse is well versed in all building types, with a current focus on construction administration. Working through the construction process with his peers in the office and on the construction site can be hectic, but, “seeing the end product completed and the owner satisfied makes it all worth it.” He has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio. His other passions aside from architecture are running – a love/hate relationship – and his family. He has been married to Ramie for 29 years and has three great children.
George Barrera is a registered architect and senior project manager with a passion for turning architectural visions into remarkable realities. As a project manager, his approach is characterized by meticulous planning, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the architectural process. He thrives on the challenge of managing complex projects, coordinating resources, and ensuring seamless communication between stakeholders, architects, contractors, and clients. Throughout George’s career, he has worked on a wide array of projects, ranging from high-end residential homes to commercial retail developments, and historic restoration. George is a father of two boys and the proud husband of an educator.
Daniela earned her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The University of Texas at San Antonio and her Master of Architecture from The University of Texas at Arlington. Her professional work experience ranges from working in architecture firms to local municipalities and preservation consulting. Daniela worked at the State’s Historic Preservation Office, where she consulted on Main Street cities to preserve and revitalize downtown districts across the state of Texas. In addition to her time spent in the public sector, she also brings a broad range of perspectives on a variety of project types including industrial, hospitality, multi-family and single-family residential buildings. Outside of the office, she enjoys yoga, cycling, and spending time at the Coast, and visiting her family.
Jennifer Casey is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Interior Design and is NCIDQ certified. Since joining Alamo, Jennifer has assumed a variety of project responsibilities, concentrating on corporate, commercial, K-12, and healthcare projects. Her work as a project manager relies heavily on her knowledge of design principles and her ability to blend the desired aesthetics of a space with its functional purpose. She enjoys building relationships with clients and engaging in the collaborative design process to deliver a space that perfectly fulfills the client’s vision. She has three busy children and enjoys volunteering with Snack Pak 4 Kids San Antonio through their school.
Growing up the son of a millwork salesman, Michael was always on construction sites admiring the built environment and the handmade quality of local craftsman. After graduating with his Master of Architecture from Kansas State University, he developed a passion for placemaking and an interest in the relationship of people to the place in which they live. He enjoys creating places rooted in the greater community, giving back to that community through the process of design. Michael and his family enjoy driving around San Antonio and the surrounding area soaking up life and culture. He also loves painting and building science fiction and World War 2 era model kits.
Chip graduated from the University of Texas in 2001. After starting his career in custom home design, he moved to downtown San Antonio and spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. His focus on affordable housing combined with experience in urban infill development made him an immediate asset to the Alamo team. Away from the office, Chip and his wife host guests at their shipping container B&B. There’s nothing he enjoys more than traveling and spending time with family, especially watching his two kids participating in sports and activities they love.
Gabriel (Gabe) Garcia graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with his bachelor’s and master’s in architecture. The act of creating has always intrigued him which naturally led to architecture as an outlet. This world of creation and architecture also gave him exposure to graphic design and pottery, which quickly became passions. Gabe throws regularly at the wheel and has begun to teach the office as well. During the week Gabe works with the talented higher education studio, to develop details and ensure as smooth a construction process as possible.
Tony grew up in a small town in rural northern Wisconsin and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in architecture. After college, he moved to California and worked for a custom residential firm. Tony and his wife landed in San Antonio in 2019 and he joined the Alamo team. At Alamo, he has worked on various projects including interior design, healthcare, and education projects. During his free time, Tony, his wife, and three boys like to spend time outdoors biking, going on adventures, swimming, and going to the zoo. Tony and his family live in Memphis and, working remotely, he is our “Memphis Office.”
For Beth, Alamo Architects has always been more than a workplace for over 29 years – it’s been a family of caring comrades and a place where she could hone her own unique creative gifts. With a communications degree from Baylor University, she was the first ‘non-architect’ on staff, and Beth’s early years saw her focused on the business of the business. With the firm’s growth, Beth took on more of the duties that lead to her current role as Marketing Coordinator. Her organizational and graphic design skills serve as the key factor as she distills data, regulatory requirements, and assembles the graphics and images that tell the best story. As “Employee #1”, one of Beth’s joys is being the ‘historian and archivist’ for the firm, maintaining the vast library of projects, images, and memories. “Beth, could you find such-and-such” is often heard in the office.
Born in Michigan, Chris Johnson came into architecture through an interest in construction starting at the age of seven. After attending the University of Texas Austin School of Architecture, he moved around the United States, Mexico, and Canada gaining experience in various types of architecture and construction. He has worked on a number of multifamily and commercial projects since joining Alamo in 2021, including the Aurora Apartment building, a historic renovation in downtown San Antonio that is senior affordable housing. In his time off, Chris enjoys swimming, bowling, kayaking, skiing, playing guitar, reading, museums, and various other interests. He has family in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia.
Kaitlin graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design in 2022 and plans to continue her education to earn her Master of Architecture at UTSA. Her goal is become licensed in both Interior Design and Architecture. She is currently working with the education team on K-12 projects. She is a member of the local AIA and WiA chapter in San Antonio. In her free time, she enjoys picking books for her book club, podcasts, and all things fashion related.
Lisa has been part of the Alamo team since 2002 and is an invaluable asset to the finance and accounting department. She manages all accounts receivable duties for the company, invoicing clients and tracking engineers’ contracts, invoices and payments. As a part of the finance committee, she provides financial forecasting and practices. When not crunching numbers, she enjoys cooking, nurturing her plants, playing with her sweet dachshund and spending time with her family.
Fabian attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 2009. As a child, he was curious about the built environment and explored functionality of spaces. This curiosity drew him to architecture in high school where he took two years of architecture elective courses and was involved in the architecture club. He decided to pursue this career in college while simultaneously working for a luxury custom home designer/builder in San Antonio. At Alamo Architects, Fabian is an integral part of the housing team. His interests outside of work include reading, gardening, family, and his two dogs.
Since joining the firm in 2000, Alamo principal Nicki Marrone has achieved an extensive background in PreK-12 academic design, sustainable design, and master planning. An active leader in the professional community of architecture, she served as 2015 AIA San Antonio Chapter President, and 2023 President of the Texas Society of Architects, with a platform centered on expanding career pathways and representation. This, and her work previously chairing the Society’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Taskforce, contributed to her receiving the 2024 TXA Award for Equitable Practice in Architecture in Honor of John S. Chase Jr., FAIA. Nicki regularly participates in mentoring events, career days, and other programs to illustrate the impact of architecture on all aspects of life.
Antonio, a graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture, has extensive experience working on diverse commercial and single-family residential projects in Central Texas. Recently, his focus has been primarily on projects associated with higher education and healthcare. Antonio possesses a deep understanding and specialized knowledge of the intricate relationship between architecture and mental well-being. He has not only explored this subject but has also made valuable contributions to a publication featured in HERD: Health Environments Research and Design Journal.
Glenn McGuyre is a registered architect and senior project manager whose interest in building started in elementary school where he built forts in the back of his subdivision with friends. During High School, he took mechanical and architectural drafting classes and graduated with honors in Industrial Technology. In his professional career, he has worked on a variety of project types including K-12 educational, commercial, historic rehabilitation, and religious projects. On the weekends, you can find Glenn playing golf or racing in autocross events in San Antonio and Austin.
Eric is a native San Antonian and former U.S. Army Paratrooper. After the military, Eric received his B.S. in Architecture and currently pursuing his M.A. with a certification in Urban and Regional Planning. Eric views architecture as the art of place-making, believing buildings should not only serve the user’s purpose but also have a positive impact on their communities. Eric joined Alamo in 2022, where he now focuses his efforts on multi-family and commercial design projects. Eric shares a love for real estate with his wife and is a gym enthusiast on his off time.
Corpus Christi native Shawna Misiong moved to San Antonio in 2002 to attend The University of Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. After graduating, completing the NCIDQ and becoming a Texas Registered Interior Designer (RID), Shawna began setting new roots in San Antonio. Over the last 17 years, Shawna has worked on a variety of projects including commercial offices, medical facilities, multi-family complexes, event centers, and luxury homes within the San Antonio area. Her personal design flair is eclectic and always evolving to keep her spaces fun and evoking joy. Married with two active boys and a giant schnauzer, that eclectic passion is shared throughout everything they do from travels, hobbies and trying to always experience something new.
With a strong connection to his West Texas roots, Mark draws inspiration from vernacular architecture and the ecological nuances of each region. His design philosophy centers around the idea that the built environment should harmonize with nature, forging a connection between people and their surroundings. Mark holds both graduate and undergraduate degrees in Architecture from the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 2023, Mark joined Alamo Architects, where he contributes his expertise to the education team. He believes great spaces emerge when art, science, and nature converge.
Lindsay began cultivating her architectural interests early through Legos and blocks, art classes, and “helping” her dad with his many construction projects. These explorations, paired with family trips to the mountains, set the tone for what would become an enduring love of nature and the delicate balance between natural and built environments. The daughter of a lifelong teacher, Lindsay has seen firsthand the impact that safe and supportive learning environments have on student confidence and achievement and works diligently to create inspired PK-12 learning spaces. She is a member of American Institute of Architects and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.
Fernando Ortega has over thirty years of project experience including Higher Education, K-12, Commercial, Medical, Hospitality, Residential, Adaptive Reuse and Master Planning. His strength and passion are collaborating with and engaging project teams throughout the design process. Fernando believes architecture is at its most meaningful when design responds directly and intentionally in the form of a dialogue between a project's vision, expectations, and its context and community. Fernando attended The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture and is a licensed architect in Texas. Fernando is an avid fan of music, art, and film and is an amateur photographer.
Jenny is an experienced and dedicated professional with 17 years’ experience as an Office Manager. With a strong work ethic and a keen eye for detail, Jenny has successfully contributed to the smooth operations and organizational efficiency of Alamo throughout her career. Jenny is a master at juggling numerous administrative tasks, which helps keep our daily operations running like a well-oiled machine. She’s an excellent communicator and brings different departments and teams together, creating an efficient and productive work environment. Jenny is currently in school for her Bachelor of Business Administration. Her hobbies include reading, gardening, and traveling with her husband and kids.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Alex earned his Master of Architecture and Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University. His education and experience with both architecture and marketing have helped develop his unique, forward-thinking approach to design and aided his leadership abilities within his profession. His work experience includes a variety of projects throughout Texas and California. When he is not at work, Alex enjoys traveling and just may be the biggest San Antonio Spurs fan on the planet!
In 2019, Erik graduated from the University of Texas San Antonio with his master’s degrees in architecture. His love of architecture started in high school. While attending Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Erik participated in the ACE Mentor program which exposed him to the profession. Since joining Alamo Architects, he has contributed to a variety of projects, typically higher education, and healthcare projects. Outside of work his interests focus on his family, which include hiking, biking, and watercolor painting.
Julia attended Texas State University where she graduated with her BSFCS in Interior Design. She brings her interest in Historic Preservation into her work at Alamo. Currently her work includes interior design for K-12 and multifamily projects. In her free time, Julia is involved with Barkitecture San Antonio, a city-wide student design competition focusing on building dog houses. She also can be found joining her 5K running club, doing Pilates and Barre, traveling, and discovering new restaurants. She is the owner of several fashion pet boutiques.
Nidia is a licensed interior designer and design leader at Alamo Architects. She brings over 13 years of expertise in diverse projects, ranging from corporate workplaces and higher education to healthcare facilities and hospitality spaces. Thriving on the opportunity to create remarkable experiences, Nidia utilizes innovative design solutions, informed by her deep understanding of spatial planning, color theory, and material selections. Nidia holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture and Design from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. With an unwavering commitment to project excellence, Nidia continuously seeks out new approaches and techniques to elevate her designs, ensuring they remain fresh and innovative.
Sean grew up in Colorado and became interested in the field of architecture at an early age. As a boy with a sketchpad, he had a desire to somehow make the world a better place. After founding a nonprofit and being asked to serve on oversight committees for the City of San Antonio’s Parks Projects, new friends were made with like-minded individuals at Alamo Architects. Having a keen eye for detail and over 10 years of managerial experience, Sean now focuses on Construction Administration and nonprofit efforts for the community. In his spare time, he can be found building mountain bike trails and playing with his children and their dog. Being born with heart disease and surviving two valve transplants, he has persevered to become an endurance athlete to win the battle.
Lupita Suarez’s love of architecture began with her love of her elementary school building, a safe and welcoming environment created through an understanding of design. Wishing to create those spaces for future generations, Lupita joined Alamo Architects in 2019 and immediately jumped into K-12 school projects. Lupita is a member of AIA San Antonio Young Architects and holds an undergraduate professional degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.
Trent is an Architect with a passion for urban design, master planning, adaptive re-use, and multi-family housing projects. As an urban designer, he seeks to merge innovative sustainable strategies with the design of highly contextual and vibrant public spaces. Trent’s love of urban planning and first-hand experience as a wheelchair user have also led him to take on several community outreach and advocacy roles. He currently sits on the San Antonio Housing Trust’s Sustainability and Universal Design Committee and is one of the founding board members of ActivateSA. Across all his work, Trent brings together his experience as both a designer and wheelchair user to advocate for a more equitable, accessible, and sustainable built environment. He is a graduate of the B.S. in Architecture program at UTSA and holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture.
Bryan “Mo” Verdecanna has been a project manager since 2003. While working at Alamo, he has worked on multi-family, retail, and K-12 projects. Mo’s attention to detail and ability to juggle the most complex design problems puts him into the mix of our most difficult projects. Additionally, he is a Registered Accessibility Specialist in Texas and uses that knowledge to help Alamo incorporate universal design principles in their projects. In his free time, Mo likes to spend time with family outdoors, work on cars, and travel.
Keith is a Project Manager who places a strong emphasis on fostering effective team dynamics and facilitating seamless communication. He graduated from University of the Incarnate Word with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, where he refined his expertise in leadership, organizational proficiency, and strategic planning. Beyond his professional endeavors, Keith actively engages in community initiatives, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact. When Keith isn't involved in his work or community, he finds solace in the great outdoors alongside his wife, Celina. They share a mutual passion for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and exploring the natural world.
Jason first became interested in architecture as a middle-schooler while helping his father build an addition to his family’s home where he discovered a passion for both construction and the creation of inspiring spaces. Since graduating from the University of Cincinnati, he has practiced in several states on a wide range of project types and scales. His focus is on health care, where he strives to create fulfilling environments for both patients and providers. His other career is raising two amazing children (and two lazy dogs) with his wife. In his spare time, he is a wine enthusiast and loves to cook.
