Beverly Baldwin, AIA, is a principal with the firm with over 20 years of experience. Projects in her portfolio cover a comprehensive range: multiple types of retail, multifamily residential, historic preservation, adaptive reuse, mixed-use development, and programming for institutional clients. She leads our multifamily housing team, which has together designed many multifamily communities in San Antonio and across Texas, comprising more than 13,000 residential units. A significant percentage of her multifamily project work focuses on affordable and mixed-income developments, and she has expert knowledge of working with funding sources such as LIHTC, HUD, historic tax credits, HOME, and other similar programs. According to Beverly, “housing affordability builds communities by improving the quality of life for all.”
“Adaptive reuse is not only about saving buildings. It’s about strengthening communities by bringing life back to legacy structures,” Beverly notes. She believes her passion for historic preservation and adaptive reuse stems from the tangible value they add to the community. And, her projects are significant in scale – for example, Beverly is leading the retrofit of the iconic Tower Life Building. Soon to be renamed as the Tower Life Residences, the 31-story Late Gothic Revival landmark is being converted from office floors into 242 mixed-income multifamily units. In addition, her historic preservation and adaptive reuse resume includes the Blue Flame Building in El Paso, Texas, as well as San Antonio retrofits of the Aurora Apartments, the Continental Building, and the Savoy Hotel.
Beverly leads our People and Firm Committee, which oversees mentorship and professional development initiatives at Alamo Architects. Her mission to build communities likewise goes beyond the project realm: she adds her energy and expertise to working groups within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Beyond her professional pursuits, she generously volunteers time and expertise to the community groups close to her heart.
