Designing with the Neighborhood

Alamo Architects has a cherished tradition of pitching in on community efforts. So, when the opportunity arose to collaborate with neighbors to rescue a nearby urban garden, we got on board!

Working with local arts leader Andy Benavides (through non-profit SMART.org), Briscoe Elementary School, and Southtown community, we organized resources and volunteers to refurbish the neglected garden at nearby St. Henry Catholic Church. With creative teamwork, the space was transformed into a public garden area, with a new greenhouse and kid-friendly landscaping. A bright flower mural, designed (and painted!) by Briscoe Elementary 5th grader Satori Hernandez, creates a showstopping focal point and sends a message of optimism for the future.

At grand opening, enthusiastic neighbors gathered to celebrate this team effort. To everyone who provided the seeds to help our community grow – local teachers and students thank you!
