Alamo Architects is immensely proud to announce that our co-founder Mike McGlone, FAIA, will be recognized with the 2026 TxA Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Honor of Llewellyn W. Pitts, FAIA. The Llewellyn Pitts award is the highest TxA honor and is a fitting recognition of Mike’s long commitment in service to the architecture community. The presentation will take place at the TxA26 Annual Conference in October, here in San Antonio.
Throughout his career, McGlone has sought to elevate architecture and helped grow our firm by leading some of its most prominent projects, including the Fairmount Hotel move and restoration, the Pope John Paul II Mass site, our own SoFlo campus headquarters, and the Ruby City collaboration with Adjaye Associates. Each of these marquee projects showcases Mike’s native resourcefulness, optimistic brand of creativity, and deep knowledge of craft.
McGlone has dedicated more than 45 years to practice, and 25 years to the AIA. He served as AIA San Antonio president in 2012, as TxA president in 2018, and, beginning in 2020, on the AIA Strategic Council, where he championed a more diverse leadership pipeline while aligning the organization’s strategic goals for climate action and social equity with the need for affordable housing. For his significant contributions to reshaping AIA policies and practices, McGlone was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2023. He currently serves on the TxA O’Neil Ford Medal Committee and as TAF president while continuing decades of community service in planning, design advocacy, and neighborhood preservation.
