Alamo Principal Nicki Marrone shares HerStory on a podcast series celebrating the AIA-SA Women in Architecture network.

Catch Nicki Mellado Marrone in this episode of the podcast series HerStory in the Making, in conversation with Adam Word Gates.

In this podcast series celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the AIA San Antonio Women in Architecture network (WIA), Nicki shares thoughts with Gates on her career in architecture. Covering everything from her 2000 interview with Alamo Architects (“driving around King William, thinking ‘what a beautiful place to have an architecture firm,’”), to the office’s tradition of tackling big challenges, to a 20-plus-year span of finding opportunities to grow as a practitioner and leader. It’s a lively and substantive conversation.

On the topic of mentorship within the profession, Nicki encourages young people to take a broad view of the definition of “architect,” exploring the full range of roles that architects embody; and to believe “there is space for everyone in the profession.” “There are so many ways people can tell you ‘no, you can’t be an architect;’ I want to be the one to tell you ‘yes, you can.’”

Tune in to get Nicki Marrone’s take on architecture as a fulfilling practice, and how service to community comes back to you “a hundred-fold.”
