Founded by Alamo Architects staff, ActivateSA is a 501(c)(3) grassroots tactical planning initiative and advocacy organization. Composed of architects, landscape architects, conservationists, civil engineers, civic leaders, transportation planners, and others, volunteers work collectively to implement a well-connected regional transportation infrastructure. Since founding in 2019, we work for change through advocacy, consensus-building, and technical design.
Making San Antonio a more just, affordable, resilient, and vibrant place requires empowering San Antonians to get around their city safely and efficiently on a transportation system that works for everyone – pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and transit users. ActivateSA seeks to enhance the efforts of community leaders in advocating for connected and efficient walking and cycling infrastructure across the city, building an active transportation network to serve every neighborhood, and giving San Antonians the freedom to move however they choose.
“Activating” San Antonio is all-encompassing. It is not only making a better way to move between places but propelling the city into a sustainable future by fostering social mobility, creating resilient neighborhoods, and spurring equitable economic development. ActivateSA advocates for more effective use of public transit and a more sustainable and inclusive land-use plan that addresses the imperative of affordable housing and anti-displacement protections for low-income communities.
ActivateSA is engaged in highly impactful community initiatives. Notable accomplishments include:
‘Share the Streets’ Helps Residents Take Ownership of Neighborhood
City of San Antonio partners, local coalition advance updates to ‘complete streets’ policy
