As part of a new campus master plan rollout, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) facilities management department in 2010 engaged us to design the Bauerle Road Parking Garage and Visitor Center. We recognized the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the central campus academic neighborhood. Additionally, we proposed an innovative solution for improved ADA accessibility with a pedestrian bridge to the Main Building. Through its scale, timeless architectural expression, and thoughtful site plan, the structure joins the north quadrant as an integral campus building.

Sometimes, our opportunities are not centered on unique design expression, but rather on a highly responsive solution to a client brief. In the case of our expansion to the City of Shavano Park fire station, we designed to prioritize the client’s programmatic needs, seamlessly integrating a significant addition. This 2010 project is a prime example of a tailored response to client requirements, an elegant solution at home in its residential neighborhood context.

Southtown Aldea, now in pre-construction phase, is a residential development sited at the northern edge of the popular Southtown arts district; also adjacent to historic Downtown San Antonio and Hemisfair and its new Civic Park. The one-of-a-kind development is made up of three midrise buildings arranged around plazas and courtyards, situated between a wide boulevard and the shaded historic streets of neighboring Lavaca. Its rich architectural expression is drawn from the eclectic local vernacular, in a composed harmony of historicist and contemporary design. In material quality and experiential delight, the development is designed to become both a unique enclave for a residential community, and an attractive addition to a desirable downtown neighborhood.
